I totally agree, with one caution. Break the rules – but know why you are breaking them so that you can do it with skill. If it’s accidental it’s likely it won’t work.
Good point, Yvonne. But I think as long as a writer has grammar and spelling and syntax down, then anything’s fair game. Who knows? They might write the next breakout novel or create a new genre 🙂
